Hi People:
Rejoice! I shall not be in class tomorrow as I am being carted off with a group of Cheerleaders to commentate on WVSU in the Chicago Classic this weekend. I know you will all miss me...
I definitely dislike free writing - but I dislike even more showing it on a public board. As my second favortite incarantion of The Doctor (see above) played by Patrick Troughton maintained:
"Acting is like magic If I show you how I do it, it spoils the illusion." I feel very much the same way about writing. Think of the times you have had to give a presentation - although notes are a safety net, if you can commit to memory what you are going to say, you can then concentrate on other aspects of your work to bring the presentation to life. The same goes with writing. Don't show them how you got to your literary masterpiece...just know it well enough so you can wow them with your delivery.
Any thoughts?
Craig

This is an intersting thought Craig (I listened to your anouncing of the game..good job!). But to me this idea of not sharing inventions and writing seems to fit into the myth of the solitary genius. THe idea that "good" writers write alone and without "help". In reality though, writers have readers, they have writing groups and editors. So they do not toil alone, and as I have found one person's writing process does not always work for someone else. I would love to draft in my head, but I can't.
Also is being a writer like some secret club? Can only certain people come in? And while it is certainly possible to steal someone's writing, is it possible to "steal" invention strategies? Do they belone to one person? And even if two people have the same strategy does it always work the same?
Thoughts everyone?
Craig, you asked what has been some benefits for me using technology. Well, it's been essential for school. I couldn't even think about college today without a computer.
I also use my computer for communitaction by e:mail. This summer my husband went to Jammaica on a mission trip, I could not go, and the only way we could communicate was through email.
I also use the computer for schedueling, and online purchases. Well, I look up things to purchase and then call the vendor. I never purchase directly online. I'm afraid of someone getting my personal information. I also use a cell phone daily, and I'm leaning how to use my son's MP3 player.
As an education major, I know that I will have to learn how to create power points, and learn how to use the "Smartboards".
